The Atlantic DIP team are delighted at the success of our Seminar for Women with Diabetes that took place in Croi House today. Our fantastic group of attendees shared their experiences of diabetes and of pregnancy and our group of experts delivered excellent talks on various topics including care before and during pregnancy, diet, exercise, new technologies/research and breastfeeding.

EMERGE for women with GDM examining the benefits of Metformin and EXPECT for women with Type 1 Diabetes examining a new insulin Degludec in pregnancy preparation or in pregnancy. Exciting news!! The EMERGE trial is now up and running in Galway and our first two babies are delivered and doing great! This landmark study led by Prof Fidelma Dunne aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a medication called metformin in treating gestational diabetes mellitus. We are currently recruiting pregnant women to participate in this trial.If you would like to find out more or volunteer, please contact our research nurse Ms Michelle Courcy Byrne @ 086 0208726.

Professor Fidelma Dunne was the local host for the annual Diabetic Pregnancy Study Group Meeting which took place in Dublin at the start of the month. Approximately 100 experts gathered to discuss optimal management of diabetes in pregnancy and plan the future direction of the society.
